How To Create Your Own Slayers Series

Oh you'd like that, wouldn't you?  Another season of the Slayers.  Maybe you'll write a fanfic, or god-forbid, an epic doujinshi. Anyway, you're not gonna be the one to animate the much-wanted fourth season of Slayers (which kids, AIN'T HAPPENING).  But you can pretend you are--here is your handy-dandy guide to how things work in your typical Slayers TV series:
  • First you need to start off with an introductory episode.  Something people can skip and get the plot later on.  Lina will blow something up.
  • Next, you'll probably want to start some basis of a story.  A good place for this are the original Slayers novels.  If, however, you're leaping off the canon, then make something up.  This should go on for maybe two or four episodes.  Lina will blow more stuff up, and Xelloss will probably show up because people like that sort of thing.
  • This is probably episode 6 or something.  Hey! Throw in some gags--this IS Slayers, after all.

Back to Story, now.  Things get serious, and Lina will probably lose her powers for some reason or another.  Continue for 4-6 episodes.  Sprinkle unlikely and/or stupid situations liberally.  Semi-big climax, something goes boom.  Boom is a big thing with Slayers--don't forget the boom!

  • Now we've gotten through all that nasty story stuff, and our heroes might have a clue as to who is behind All This Bad Stuff.  Time for gag episodes.  Continue to episode 17, in which Gourry will cross-dress.  This is a rule.  Gourry. Must. Wear. A. Dress.  If you do nothing else right, put him in the damn dress, okay?
  • After you've successfully dressed Gourry as a girl, get everybody together and get the plot in full swing again.  Travel to place of battle.  Gourry will say something stupid and prompt Lina to do an exposition on Important Historical Facts that pertain to The Bad Guy.  If Sylphiel is slated to come on stage, this is her cue.
  • For episodes 22-26 crank up the action and angst meter.  For fun, seriously threaten the very life of either Lina or Gourry and watch the results which mainly consist of name-calling and possibly coughing up of blood.  Lina will win in the end, however, and conquer her mighty foe with BIG BOOM.  The last 8 minutes or so of your final episode will be happy "la-la the battle is over stuff" and the gang will eat, then run into the sunset seeking adventure.

Wow! that's it! Amazing!  But wait, here are some other things to consider:

  • If he's included in the party, Zelgadis will refuse to help in some seemingly pointless task at some point or another.
  • Gourry will need to make at least 3 poor comments about Lina's rack (I haven't checked to see if this holds true in Try  . . .)
  • There will be a reference to Naga in some shape or form, but she will not be named.
  • There will be a fifth regular party member (aside from Xelloss who doesn't really count).  This person tends to be female and is a rival or foil to Lina in some fashion.
  • Lina will be forced to dress or act girly in some fashion, with wa-wa-wacky results.
